A catalytic, high yielding procedure for the synthesis of 9H-carbazole-3,6-dicarbo-nitrile has been developed, following its facile hydrolytic transformation to 9H-carbazole-3,6-dicarboxylic acid. Both compounds are versatile building blocks for material
