My research in Professor Eddaoudi's group focuses on the development of mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs) for molecular separation. This project has the potential to revolutionize energy-intensive separation processes, promoting energy sustainability and contributing to a zero-carbon future. MMMs are designed by incorporating molecular sieve fillers into a polymer matrix, offering a promising approach to combine the advantages of both materials and fabricate hybrid membranes with superior separation performance. However, achieving this remains a significant challenge.
To address this, my work involves enhancing the compatibility between metal-organic material fillers and the polymer matrix by carefully modifying the surface chemistry of the fillers. Additionally, I investigate how factors such as particle size, morphology, and distribution can dramatically improve gas separation performance in membranes.
