FMD3 Senior Research Scientist, Dr. Youssef Belmabkhout, participated as a panel speaker in the third session of Asbar World Forum (AWF), which took place in Riyadh between 4-6 November 2018 under the theme “The Future Era: Saudi Arabia Tomorrow.”
The discussion entitled “Energy of the Future” aimed to analyze the challenges of the petroleum industry and the future of the environment locally and globally as well as innovative technologies to enhance energy efficiency.
Dr. Belmabkhout noted that the R&D work at KAUST heavily supports the effort of the Kingdom to move quickly toward knowledge-based economy in the field of sustainable energy use.
“Our ultimate objective is to make the use of fossil fuel environmentally, socially and economically sustainable by 2030-2040. Imagine that part of the gas plants/or any other prototype deployed in the kingdom or any region of the world is discovered at KAUST, in Saudi Arabia. This is no more a technical dream at the laboratory scale, nevertheless a lot of work and challenges are still ahead to be able to reach commercialization”, he added.
The expert panel included Dr. Mohammad Salem. S, Al Sabban, Former Chief Economist Advisor to the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources; Mr. Azzam Shalabi, Chief Executive Office of Industrialization and Energy Services Company; Eng. Hani Alabd AlHadi, President and Founder of Arkad; Dr. Youssef Belmabkhout, Senior Research Scientist in the Advanced Membranes and Porous Materials Research Center – KAUST and Dr. Ammar Al Nahawi, Director of Saudi Aramco Research and Development Center in the future of Energy Session.
